As part of the Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2002, London-based design collective Airside - renowned for their award winning design for clients such as the London Barbican, the White Cube Gallery, musician Richard Ashcroft and photographer Nadav Kander - will be exhibiting a psychedelic cacophony of the visuals and noises that Airside, Fred Deakin and Lemon Jelly make. The show itself will take the form of a shop because they like to create objects that people can take away and cherish. The shop will populated by the little people they have found inhabiting strange worlds on the wacky world-wide interweb and in the corner of old shoeboxes left at the bus stop.

All they need now is you!! So, don¹t miss this opportunity to get your candy-floss-coated-finger-tips on the coolest merchandise around. From limited edition Lemon Jelly screen prints and artwork to Airside designed toys, posters, t-shirts, bags and badges. This show also gives you the opportunity to interact and get up close to the work of one of the design industry's most highly acclaimed creative companies.

Airside is a London design collective comprising nine people from widely varying disciplines. These range from graphic design and illustration through textiles and photography to computer programming, 3-D modeling and architecture. As well as being part of Airside, Fred Deakin is also one half of the eclectic leftfield band Lemon Jelly and also runs clubs such as Impotent Fury. Airside was set up by Fred Deakin, Nat Hunter and Alex Maclean in 1999. Until then each was working freelance in various disciplines - Fred in graphic design, Nat on special effects for movies and interactive theatre installations, and Alex in computer modelling and government internet projects. Each was looking for a platform to achieve greater creative fulfilment and control. Airside was the result.

Since its inception Airside has established itself as a highly professional company that approaches the world of design with its tongue firmly in its cheek and has developed a rigorous creative process and a strong visual identity. Enjoyment and passion are pre-requisites when Airside undertakes a project - be it a website, an identity, a title sequence or animation for TV, t-shirts or CD sleeves. This unique approach has won two coveted Design Week awards and a D&AD Silver nomination.

While studying at Edinburgh University where he read English Literature, Fred ran a series of clubs such as Thunderball, Going Places and Misery as well as starting up his own graphic design company and publishing acid house fanzine Gear with his sister Camilla. In 1993 he moved to London to do an MA in Communication Design at Central St Martin's School of Art. During this time he continued running clubs such as Cheese and Impotent Fury, as well as writing for The Face and becoming a part-time tutor at St Martin's. On graduating he then worked for London-based design company Swifty Typographix and started Lemon Jelly with Nick Franglen in 1998. They released their first album lemonjelly.ky on XL Recordings in November 2000 to the joy of gardening program enthusiasts; their new album Lost Horizons is due to be released in September of this year and they will be touring the country shortly after.

"Airside are one of the most talked about digital design companies of today." D&AD June 2002. "A young as funky-as-they-come digital and graphics design group with a dream client list." from a feature in DESIGN WEEK, March 2002. "A small, truly cross disciplinary design consultancy" Š. "Enter a world crammed with pop culture ephemera: packaging, toys, music and posters, not to mention the electronic paraphernalia of a modern design company. The eclecticism on display is telling, for here is a company unafraid to branch out into whatever takes its fancy." from BLUEPRINT, November 2001
